Sheryl Crow condemns White House UFC spectacle calling it "disgraceful"
The White House hosted its first ever UFC event on June 14
Sheryl Crow has criticised Donald Trump following the UFC event staged on the White House grounds, describing the fight as "devoid of decency" and called it a distraction from the issues facing Americans.
The Grammy-winning singer shared her reaction on her Instagram story following UFC Freedom 250, located on the South Lawn of the White House.
Crow said the event reflected misplaced priorities. She argued that many Americans are struggling with rising costs and healthcare concerns while political leaders focus on spectacle.
"Powerful, rich people filled the lawn to watch a violent sport that ended with a vile and racist comment," she wrote. "All while the average American cannot afford healthcare, gas and cost of living."
The racist comment she referred to came from UFC winner Josh Hokit, who ended a post-match interview by saying, "And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right America?"
The UFC event was staged as part of celebrations surrounding the President's 80th birthday and the 250th celebration of America's independence.
An estimated 4,300 people were present for the invite-only event, and another 85,000 were expected to have watched at a nearby fan zone.
The UFC spent about €45 million on the event, including roughly €600,000 for grass repairs afterwards on the lawn.
This is not the first time Crow has publicly denounced the Trump administration. Last July, Crow released a song 'The New Normal', that took aim at the US president and called the single a response to what she sees as an increasingly troubling political climate in America.
