'Long Live Izakaya' protest to take place in Dublin tomorrow
It follows an injunction sought by the Hoxton Hotel against the neighbouring nightclub Yamamori Izakaya due to noise levels.
A protest against the Hoxton Hotel is set to take place tomorrow in Dublin after it sought an injunction against the restaurant and late night bar Yamamori Izakaya.
The Hoxton Hotel, formerly the Central Hotel, Exchequer Street, is part of a global chain and reopened on November 20 last following extensive refurbishment.
Stephan Ernest, hotel manager, said that the "elevated noise levels" from the neighbouring business have seriously interfered with guests’ stays, adding that it has had to withdraw a substantial amount of rooms.
Last Friday, the Hoxton said the two businesses agreed to work on sound testing over the weekend in order to come to a solution.
The news of the injunction sparked outrage among the public, leading to the organisation of a protest tomorrow in Great George’s Street at 6pm.
Musician and People Before Profit member Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin said to Newstalk that the protest was happening “because people are sick of the loss of cultural space venues in the city,” adding that Yamamori Izakaya “has been there for a lot longer than the new management at the Hoxton.”
Taking to Instagram, he continued: “Izakaya is an integral part of Dublin's nightlife culture. Its loss would be yet another blow to the cultural life of the city.”
