'Drop the Rent Hikes' protest to take place in Dublin this Saturday
The march will begin at the Garden of Remembrance at 1pm this Saturday.
Community Action Tenants Union (CATU) have scheduled a 'Drop the Rent Hikes' protest for this Saturday, March 28.
The demonstration will begin at the Garden of Remembrance at 1pm before a march through the city commences.
People Before Profit councillor Conor Reddy took to Instagram to promote the protest.
"We have a cost of living crisis that's spiraling out of control," Reddy said. "Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, Dun Laoighaire-Rathdown are pushing the largest rent increases in well over 30 years."
"We need organisation in communities. Rent increases are coming for people who are living in Dickensian conditions. Mould, dramp, sewage, drainage issues. This needs to change."
"The government wants to pit renters against each other, private renters and public renters. Really what the government are doing is equalising misery."

In November 2025, Dublin City Council introduced a new Differential Rent Scheme to go into effect on Monday, April 6. The scheme would see all social housing tenancies and Housing Assistant Payments (HAP) recipients facing a 12-13% rent increase, on average. Private renters have seen rent hikes alongside cost-of-living increases over the past several years.
In a statement to Facebook, CATU wrote, "National and Local Government need to step up to the plate and talk about how to properly fund public housing and maintenance without squeezing tenants in a cost of living crisis."
