Willow Smith shaves head during live 'Whip My Hair' performance
This 20-year-old musician's virtual concert ended with a powerful moment.
In celebration of the release of her fourth solo studio album, Lately I Feel Everything, singer Willow Smith held a virtual concert featuring Travis Barker and Avril Lavigne that ended with a surprising twist.
While performing a rock version of her 2010 hit 'Whip My Hair', Willow had her head shaved in the middle of an incredible guitar solo. Performing as part of her Facebook Live event, Willow In Concert: lately I feel EVERYTHING, on July 16, Willow was mid-performance when a woman walks out on stage bringing a stool and clippers. Willow doesn’t miss a beat of the song while her hair is ceremoniously shaved.
Both Lavigne and Barker appear on ‘G R O W’, with Barker also performing on ‘Gaslight’ and the previously-released ‘t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l’.
"I’m always shaving my head at monumental times in my life, when things are really changing. And this is definitely one of those moments," the 'Transparent Soul' singer shares. Th act marks the third time Smith has shaved her head, the first time being in 2012 on tour aged 11. "Young Willow was just so fearless," stated the musician.
With Lately I Feel Everything, Willow shifts away from the stripped-back jazz sounds of her previous solo album, Willow, and brings us pop punk, early 2000s sounds combined with musical innovations that set her album apart.
Her mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, joins her in buzzing her hair off, sharing a mother-daughter photo with the caption, "Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT... my '50s are bout to be divinely lit with this shed."
