Wild Flag
Riot grrrl pioneers release wild new record
If Sleater Kinney’s break-up/hiatus in 2006 left you as emotionally distraught as a tweenage One Direction fan finally realising that the band like their American followers better, then the incendiary debut album from Portland and Washington-based Wild Flag will most certainly soothe that ache. Featuring Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss from the aforementioned legendary riot grrrl group, their self-titled record is an absolute blast. In particular, the likes of ‘Boom,’ ‘Future Crimes’ and ‘Romance’ are bursting at the seams with ear-gasm inducing hooks and righteous, post-punk licks, and it’s all delivered with a youthful exuberance that belies their collective years on planet Earth. Prepare to have a new favourite band.
