Volume Freak
Dance album of the fortnight.
Scottish producer Lars Sandberg’s third album, Volume Freak, sees him fully realise the potential hinted on its predecessor, Dos. Lars’ three big singles, ‘Diabla’, ‘Emotional Content’ and – in a revamped format - ‘Jack Me Off’ are included, while Funk D’Void’s first flirtations with vocalists are the perfect accompaniment to the deep techy house of ‘Can’t Get Enough Of A Bad Thing’ and ‘Way Up High’. Elsewhere, Lars offers fresh interpretations on lush Detroit techno and electro with the mellow grooves of ‘All That Matters’ and the minimal bass groove of ‘Beat The Bleep’. More than his previous works, the Funk soul brother’s new LP makes you want to turn the volume up to 11.
