Track of the Day: Skinner, ‘Calling in Sick’
Along with dropping a cracker of a lead singer, Skinner has announced his debut album New Wave Vaudeville, set to be released under label Faction Music on January 10, 2025.
Up and coming no-wave provocateur Skinner’s latest track ‘Calling in Sick’, has us looking forward to the weekend with its relatable lyrics and captivating riffs.
Skinner merges his post-punk and no-wave influences in this high energy track, featuring charmingly flat vocals and catchy guitar hooks. Crashing cymbals increase in speed as Skinner gets more and more worked up about his hatred for his job. Skinner is simply “sick of it all.”
"The song is about calling in sick to the world. Life is tough for most people right now and there is no down time for most of us. Some days just feel like you’re hurtling towards destruction and I just wanted to write a song that captures that feeling of anger and frustration of having to say enough is enough. Fuck everything I’m just going to do me for today. And I think that’s fair,” Skinner said speaking of the single.
Along with dropping a cracker of a lead singer, Skinner has announced his debut album, New Wave Vaudeville, set to be released under label Faction Music on January 10, 2025.
Skinner is a project by Dubliner Aaron Corcoran inspired by New York's no wave scene in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Skinner is a one man project, Corcoran's skills know no bounds as a multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer, there is no doubt that big things are coming for Skinner in 2025.
Skinner is set to support fellow Dubliners, Gurriers, in Whelans on November 26, before setting out on a solo UK and Ireland headline tour of his own in 2025.
