Track of the Day: Conor Thornton 'Cinema of Dreams' #BuyIrishMusic
Cinema of Dreams may result in an inability to distinguish fantasy from reality.
Cinema of Dreams is the first of an upcoming project "Despair & Devotion in XS City" and recorded on an 8 track reel to reel at home. The song is set against the backdrop of a dystopian 'XS City', which is oddly fitting given the timing.
Inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s sensuality, Vladimir Nabokov’s wordplay, Stanley Kubrick’s hidden details, David Lynch’s sense of mystery and Vegas-era Elvis' fading glamour, Conor Thornton presents “Despair & Devotion in XS City”. Set in the future dystopian XS City, where hypercapitalism has left increasing numbers of the population soulless and subsequently sex-less. Thornton occupies the persona of Vick Valentine, a nightclub singer who plays the lonely lounges of XS City. Haunted by the pain in his heart and the dreams of who he thought he’d be, Vick struggles to find his place in a world he no longer recognizes, as the train of time passes him by.
"Welcome to the ‘Cinema of Dreams’ – where your most insistent obsessions can be re-lived endlessly on repeat." Just take a listen below.
