Too Glamorous

MISS MONEYPENNYS
Too Glamorous (Miss Moneypennys)
If a club hires “Page 3 girl for the thrillennium” Melinda Messenger, you tend to expect a pile of dross badly mixed by a model-loving DJ of the coked-out-of-his-bin persuasion. What you don’t expect is a sublimely segued set of classy vocal house from the likes of highly respected Mancunian Graeme Park, who I would guess is already regretting his involvement with a CD packaged in such a fashion.
Graeme’s a bit too purist for today’s Irish club kids, but I’ll always remember the days when a coach load of us would spend all day travelling down to Cork just to see him play.
It is unlikely that I’ll ever remember anything about the second DJ on this twin CD set, Jim “Shaft” Ryan, other than that he’s of Irish descent. (His mix, incidentally, is acceptable enough.) Am I saying that things are not as good as they used to be? No. Things are actually better than they used to be. It’s just the drugs that aren’t. And some of the DJs. (MK)
