Tolü Makay releases single 'Become The Fire' from upcoming EP People Still Cry in Summer
Her upcoming independent EP is coming September 26
Irish-Nigerian singer Tolü Makay has released 'Become The 'Fire'—the first single of her forthcoming EP People Still Cry In Summer.
The song follows her track 'War,' a song inspired by Sinéad O'Connor, which charted at No. 9 on the Radiomonitor Breakers Chart in Ireland.
Speaking on her new song, Makay said the following: "'Become The Fire' is about resilience. About building with what’s left when everything seems broken. About choosing joy even when it feels like rebellion."
"We may be brought to the ground, but even then, we dig. We find water. We build. We become the fire," she added.
Produced by Ben Mark Weaver and Cian Sweeney, the tune combines soaring vocals with warm instrumentation, led by a recurring mantra: "If hope breaks your heart, make something new out of those parts. Like the stars never die, you can become the fire."
This year, Makay has supported Gabrielle at her Dublin 3Arena show, as well as headlining the Music & Mental Health Festival at The Workman's Club in May.
