The Last DJ On Earth [Primal Rhythms]
Alan Oldham, aka DJ T-1000 has been out of the picture for a year or so, reactivating his Pure Sonik label and recording a load of new material. He’s also been putting together this new mix CD, which launches Primates new offshoot, Primal Rhythms. Like many of his Detroit peers, Oldham isn’t too picky about the niceties of smooth beat mixing, preferring instead to cut quickly between tracks. However, his track selection is excellent; taking in funky, looped classics from Access 58 and Jeff Mills, hard edged tribal percussive material by Oliver Ho, Adam Beyer and Samuel Sessions as well as the deeper end of dance floor techno courtesy of Joel Mull and Derrick May. Last DJ is a near definitive collection of modern club techno.
