Terry O'Neill talks about his exhibition

Legendary rock photographer Terry O'Neill is set to bring a major exhibition of his work to Cork this week, and here, he chats to our man Olaf Tyaransen about the collection.

O'Neill - whose father is from Cork - began his career as a press photographer in the '60s in London, snapping legends like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithfull and Michael Caine. He then headed for the Hollywood hills, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Sean Connery - all of whom are featured in the exhibition.

Also included are O’Neill’s intimate portraits of Mohammed Ali, Brigitte Bardot, David Bowie, Raquel Welch and Catherine Deneuve. A host of contemproary figures appear to - among them, Naomi Campbell, Amy Winehouse, Kate Moss and Bono.

The show runs in two Cork venues; Wandesford Quay Gallery and Cork City Hall, from January 25 - February 22. O’Neill - who turns 75 this year - will be present at the opening at CIT Wandesford Quay Gallery, at 7pm on January 24. The exhibition will be curated by Irish Examiner Arts Editor Marc O’Sullivan and arts writer and curator, Tina Darb O’Sullivan.
