sunn O))) announce self-titled album, share new single
The album comes out April 3 via Sub-Pop, single 'Glory Black' out now
sunn O))) have announced sunn O))), their first album for Sub-Pop and tenth overall, to be released on April 3.
sunn O))) will be the drone metal duo's first LP release since 2019’s Pyroclasts. The band is made up of Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson.
Though the two have frequently hosted musical collaborators over their thirty-year history, they performed the entirety of sunn O))) as a duo. The album was recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington with co-producer and sound engineer Brad Wood.
“What’s been happening with our performances over the last couple years with the two of us and no other collaborators has been really fresh and exciting,” says Anderson.
The cover features art by late American abstract painter Mark Rothko. British writer Robert Macfarlane writes the liner notes. His 2025 novel Is a River Alive? provided inspiration for the album.
‘Glory Black’, the album’s closer, is out now.
The duo will embark on a North American headline tour this April. Tickets will go on sale Friday, January 16, at 10AM local time.
sunn O))) is available to preorder on CD, LP, and streaming platforms through Sub-Pop.
