Interesting concept, this one. Take 16 tracks, all from one artist, and get another artist to mix them onto one CD. The producer in question here getting the treatment is Steve Stoll, with Chicago’s Mike Dearborn on the mix. I’ve always been wary of both parties involved because of their relentless bangin’ approach, but this is top stuff. The mix has all the elements techno should aspire to: depth, complexity and da funk, and, although Dearborn pulls out some of Stoll’s noisy, dark moments, he still manages to segue the boy wonder’s back catalogue into one jackin’ metallic groove. As it should be. (RB)
