Serj Tankian: Harakiri
Alt. Rock icon still a rebel with a cause
Harakiri is the first in a series of four planned solo recordsfrom Lebanese-born, Armenian American musician Serj Tankian that he intends to release over the next six months or so. While his follow-up opuses will focus on jazz, electro-western and orchestral, his initial salvo sees the System Of A Down frontman occupy a more familiar musical territory, serving as something of an appetiser for the mayhem to come. Chock-full of powerful riffs and rhythms and impassioned anti-singing, (‘Ching Chime’) the highly politicised record sees the performer in a typically rebellious mood. Fans of his day job will adore the likes of the blood thirsty ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Occupied Tears.’
