Rhythms Del Mundo
AFRO-CUBAN crossover project has its moments, fails to take off
Wyclef Jean, Groove Armada, Bob Dylan and Dizzee Rascal are among the superstars cameoing on the second record from Cuban crossover project Rhythms del Mundo. Star turns notwithstanding, Revival is very much a hit and miss affair. When it is good, it is very very good. When it is bad, well, it’s rotten. On ‘Somebody To Love’ KT Tunstall’s beautiful voice interweaves perfectly with the brassy Cuban soundtrack. Alas, much of the LP sounds as if it was culled from the score to a ‘70s Spanish porn movie (not as exciting as it sounds). Moneys raised from the sale of the album will go to relief efforts in Haiti, Chile and Tibet. Sadly this might be the best reason to buy it.
