Remixes 1998-2000

J Swinscoe's Cinematic Orchestra made their name last year with the elegant night time tones of Motion, and Remixes 1998-2000 won't do their reputation any harm. Unlike most cash in remix packages, this collection is as essential as the original tracks themselves. The Orchestra's mix of Faze Action's 'Moving Cities' retains the original's strings, but slows down the tempo, adding some wind instruments and a double bass. Similarly, when the Orchestra gets their hands on Las Gammas' 'Guananco', they turn it into a beautiful, late nite jazz piece, with tribal chants sliding in and out of the mix. Swinscoe's sound isn't one for the mass market, but their interpretation of Krust's 'Re-Arrange', where soulful pianos, space age sounds and moody brass combine is a sprawling epic that wouldn't sound out of place in a Hollywood movie soundtrack.
