Nicola Reddy hears why the Almighty's Ricky Warwick is going it alone
Barely having hung up his boots from the Almighty’s Psycho Narco tour, frontman Ricky Warwick is already laying plans to go it alone with a solo album, due to be recorded in Dublin at the end of April. Overseeing the operation will be veteran and friend, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, who will be producing the album in his own studios. Bell James, who penned everyone’s fave ‘November Rain’, will be lending his skills to co-write a track with Warwick, as will Irish songwriter Gareth Wall. Although they will be releasing a best-of album later in the year, all other Almighty activities will be put on hold for the foreseeable future.
The new album will be a departure from the classic, raw Almighty sound.
“It will sound completely different – the Almighty has been going for so long now that we’ve developed our own sound and style. But I’ve always loved Johnny Cash, Steve Earle, Tom Petty… just picking up an acoustic guitar and playing around with different sounds.”
The album will be followed by a solo tour.

Warwick and The Almighty have already toured with The Ramones, Def Leppard and Therapy? so he is well used to life away from home. But how does he keep busy on those lonely nights on the road?
“Have you heard about ‘Whose Arse Is It Anyway’? I think we learned it from Therapy? You get a piece of cardboard and some guys go down the front of the tour bus and the “panel”, they sit down the back, and you cut a hole in it and somebody’s got to stick their arse through it and you have to guess whose arse it is.” Hmmm…
For any fans that need a fix in the meantime, Warwick and Elliott will be working their magic with another classic DJ set in TBMC on the 28th February at Screamadelica.
