Any suggestion that the leather pants wearing, push up bra wearing Ruyter is onstage for mere eye candy value is dispelled after about five seconds. Fuck cock rock, this woman plays the guitar like it’s a clitoris extension.
Come on, with a name like that you don’t need me to describe this band’s modus operandi; what we’re talking about here folks is a beer guzzlin’, KFC munching, narcotics referencing, trucker party soundtrack.
Fronted by the impressively beer-gutted Blaine Cartwright, the formidable female duo of his wife Ruyter on lead guitar and bass player Corey Parks ensure that the sex quota even exceeds that of the drugs and rock’n’roll, even if tonight they refrain from engaging in their customary bouts of fire-breathing and French kissing.
After Dublin garage band Female Hercules kick out the jams to open proceedings, the Pussy waste no time in getting down and dirty. Their set stays pretty much within the blueprint laid down by the godfathers AC/DC (they even throw in a cover of ‘Shot Down In Flames’ for good measure), with the odd punk blast thrown in.
But if songs such as ‘She’s Got The Drugs’, ‘Go Motherfucker Go’ and ‘Say Something Nasty’ are fairly undistinguishable from one another, the antics onstage make sure the crowd don’t get bored. ‘Dublin do you want to eat some pussy!’’, screams Blight like a southern preacher gone wrong.
But the real star of the show is the Gibson SG slinging Ruyter, putting Angus Young himself to shame in the riffing and gurning stakes.
Apparently she draws inspiration from Courtney Love, not because of admiration but out of distaste for the way Ms. Love seemingly just wears her guitar as jewellery.

And in the end everyone is sent home with ringing in their ears and a big dumb grin plastered on their faces. Finger lickin’ good indeed.
