'Ache' marks the third single to be released from Olden's forthcoming EP 'Time We Have Left'.
Rising Irish alternative-indie singer-songwriter Kev Olden has shared another single from his upcoming body of work, titled 'Ache'. Premiered below by Hot Press, the single captures the paranoia and defeat of ongoing heartbreak with an untrustworthy lover.
Written in lockdown and produced with fellow Irish artist Tiz McNamara, ‘Ache’ is a tension-filled belter that culminates in a spiralling, archaic conclusion of gritty guitar and bellowing drums.
Gentle guitar melodies and gorgeous harmonies underlay Kev's heart-wrenching message; despite the pain this person they loved put them through, somehow he still aches for them. It's far too late to fix their connection, but nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
"Lover of mine/I think I'm losing control/These delicate lies/They've started taking their toll,"the lyrics read. "Turning me in to something easy to break/there's no such thing as an honest mistake."
If the likes of Ben Howard, James Vincent McMorrow, Paolo Nutini, Jose Gonzalez, Bon Iver and Jack Garratt are on your Spotify playlists, Kev Olden will slot right in beside them.
The Cork indie performer shared his debut single 'Hush' earlier this year alongside 'Time We Have Left'. His first offering from is new EP captured the arresting power of memories - how they can be both painful and restorative. Olden blends folk, alternative and indie pop to produce a sound that’s melancholic, atmospheric and instantly memorable.
Kev moved from Dublin to Toronto in March of 2020, just before the world shut down. His forthcoming Time We Have Left EP is the culmination of a year in a new environment, in and out of isolation and in and out of the studio. Lockdown gave him the space to contemplate and write and the result is reflective, tender and clearly influenced by artists like Bon Iver and Jack Garratt.
With over 13,000 streams on Spotify and previous support from Alfitude, Fruit Sonic, Less Than 1000 and Music Is To Blame; make sure to keep an eye out for Kev Olden on the Canadian and Irish music scene.
