Peter Byrne of Naked Eyes has died

Peter Byrne, the vocalist of new wave band Naked Eyes, has passed away at age 74 in Los Angeles. The Naked Eyes website stated that he "died peacefully after a brief illness".

He and Rob Fisher, who died in 1999, formed the band after their previous band, Neon, fell apart in the early 80s. The other members of Neon would become Tears for Fears.

Naked Eyes' breakthrough hit was 'Always Something There To Remind Me', a synth-pop cover of the 1963 original. Their other Billboard Hot 100 hits were 'Promises, Promises', '(What) In the Name of Love' and 'When the Lights Go Out'.

Their 1982 debut album Burning Bridges was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, where according to Byrne, they used the "'Lucy in the Sky' harpsichord" as well as the same microphones and bar as the Beatles.

The band broke up after their second album in 1984, but were reformed by Byrne after Fisher's death. Byrne also sang backing vocals on Stevie Wonder's Part-Time Lover, and wrote songs for film and TV.

He is survived by his siblings, three children, and ex-wife.
