dEUS are capable of combining a wild eye for experimentation with a sweet ear for melody
While many less inspiring bands of their ilk have been welcomed with widespread arms into the mainstream, life has not been so kind to dEUS.
Not that the blame can’t be laid somewhat at the door of the band themselves. There can be few singles collections that feature music as wilfully obtuse as ‘Theme From Turnpike’ and ‘Fell Of The Floor, Man’, for example.
At their best, however, dEUS are capable of combining a wild eye for experimentation with a sweet ear for melody, in a way not seen around these parts since the Pixies.
From the cracked aggression of ‘Suds & Soda’ to the lounge crooning of ‘Nothing Really Ends’, no two tracks sound the same yet none could come from anyone but this particular band. Long may they stand on the outside looking in.
