Muse live at the Point Theatre, Dublin

Living up to your reputation as one of the best live bands in the world isn’t easy, but in a packed to capacity Point Theatre, Muse did so with ease. Indeed, the 8,000 plus crowd were captivated from the very first note. More importantly, the sound was amazing – each song packed a punch and made the Point seem intimate, which is no mean feat considering its vaulted dimensions. Frontman Matt Belamy was in absolutely top form, running the length of the stage, as though possessed by the music. In addition, the lighting and visuals were spectacular, crowning what was already a brilliant gig. At one stage gigantic balloons filled with red confetti were released into the audience, injecting a surreal note to the evening.
The set list was something of a mixed bag – arguably leaning too heavily towards new material. To give the band credit, though, all the stadium favourites were played, the highlight being ‘Plug In Baby’. Considering that, just a few years ago, Muse were written off as pale Radiohead imitators, this concert was little short of breath-taking.
