The Gloaming emerged triumphant on a star-studded Thursday night in Vicar Street, as the Choice Music Prize celebrated the wealth of musical talent our tiny island has to offer.
In the absence of some heavy hitters, the evening's activities were bolstered by stellar performances by a sprinkling of Song Of The Year nominees.
Kormac's Big Band kicked off proceedings with his infectious melange of samples, beats and brass before our minds were blown with a dose of earth-splitting riffage from powerhouse trio The Minutes. Then hotly-tipped Donegal duo Little Hours transported us back to planet earth with their beguiling, serene sonic effusions.
The first of the Prize nominees, The Riptide Movement were joined by a brass section and five backing singers for a fine selection from Getting Through including chart sensation 'It All Works Out'.
They were followed by uber-talented duo We Cut Corners whose appearance was one of the most remarkable of the evening, their compelling rendition of 'Blue' was mesmeric to say the least.
Later, James Vincent McMorrow made his way to the stage for a performance that brought the entire venue to its feet, his singular otherworldly voice and unparalleled ability to craft songs of beauty and poignancy making for the most moving display of the night – that standing ovation was well deserved. Delorentos brought the musical portion of the evening to a close with top notch set which climaxed with an ebullient 'Show Me Love' closing the evening on a high.
