If every record label was as consistent as Paper, there’d be no need for music journalists. Scary thought, that. If you don’t already know, New Phunk Theory are Chris Scott and Shindig ressie Scott Bradford, and together they make sublime house music. That’s not to say the boys have their eyes firmly set on the dancefloor – ‘No More TV’, ‘Killer Picture’ and ‘Mezzophunk’ are all tracks that work well as armchair listening – but it’s really their floor friendly creations, the deep techno-house of ‘Shoot The Shit’, the saxy ‘Singled Out’, ‘Honey Falls’ atmospherics and the classic ‘Phunk Theory Theme’ that highlight their talents. Hopefully it’s not just a phase they’re going through. (RB)
