James Blake shares preview clip of new single 'Are You Even Real?'
Blake later confirmed that the track would be released this Wednesday, July 8.
Alternative pop artist James Blake has teased release of his upcoming new single 'Are You Even Real?' to his online followers.
Announcing the new track on Twitter on July 5, Blake shared a 20-second audio excerpt of the song.
Songwriters Starrah and Ali Tamposi co-wrote 'Are You Even Real?', with recording taking place across Burbank, Los Angeles and New York.
The track follows Blake’s most recent single, ‘You’re Too Precious‘ - his first new music release since 2019's Assume Form LP.
Blake's loved-up fourth record featured Andre 3000 and Travis Scott, and saw his trademark emotive lyricism and production talent of the highest level.
In an 8/10 review from Ed Power, Hot Press described the record as both "experimental and accessible".
"Assume Form is his most approachable LP yet, his dawn chorus vocals and depth-charge beats put in the service of what are essentially straightforward ballads."
The singer teamed up with Mustafa earlier this month to perform his new track, ‘Come Back‘, dedicated to Smoke Dawg following the two year anniversary of his death.
Speaking of his most recent collaboration with 31-year-old Blake, the artist Mustafa wrote: “Perpetually grateful for James who helped free me of my own emotional burdens when I was young".
Throughout June, Blake has been sharing the latest in a series of covers, performing a piano-led rendition of Nirvana’s ‘Come As You Are‘, Stevie Wonder’s ‘Never Dreamed You’d Leave In Summer’, Radiohead’s ‘No Surprises’, Billie Eilish’s ‘When The Party’s Over’ and Frank Ocean’s ‘Godspeed’.
