Jackass The Movie: Original Soundtrack

If ever a big, dumb ass movie required a big, dumb ass soundtrack then it has to be Johnny Knoxville’s Jackass. Far from a cheap, shoddy cash-in, however, the soundtrack turns out to be a well put together overview of the US punk scene. With their roots in the alternative skate scene, Knoxville and co certainly know their stuff, taking in the old (The Ramones, The Misfits and The Rezillos), the new (the sheer bloody genius of Andrew W.K., Sahara Hotnights) and the wilfully obscure (Smut Peddlers, Detroit Cobras, CKY – take your pick).

Though not all of it works – what the hell is Sir Mix-A-Lot’s odious ‘Baby Got Back’ doing here? – you can’t deny that their intentions are good – to give mainstream TV (and now cinematic) exposure to all sorts of bands who might otherwise never get the chance. It won’t win any Grammy’s, but Jackass is still a big, dumb joy.
