In Love With The Dudley Corporation
If their debut sounded like what it is to inhabit The Lonely World Of The Dudley Corporation, then album number two is all about love sweet love.
If their debut sounded like what it is to inhabit The Lonely World Of The Dudley Corporation, then album number two is all about love sweet love. “I wrote a lot of songs when I was alone/Scraping out shit/Things from the bottom of my soul,” intones Dudley Colley as if talking about his own songs from a lonely room. “I needed a new language for you,” he concludes. Add a bigger, brighter sound and you’re in love with the Dudley Corporation all over again.
Like its predecessor, In Love With… was conceived in Glasgow’s Chem19 studios. Local heroes The Delgados lend their string section for a second time, capping such gorgeous songs as ‘A.M.’. This is more reflective Corpo, best illustrated by the lovely and lovingly titled ‘To Angels And Dead Friends’. The unpredictable arrangements and furious start stop pop are still present and incorrect.
If you like your songs to be neatly structured and safe then perhaps it’s not quite the place for you. For the benefit of those who find it difficult to interpret Dudley’s high pitched vocals, a very colourful lyric sheet will help you fill in the blanks for fourteen more reasons to fall in love with the Dudley Corporation.
