Hot for 2019 Irish Acts: Tebi Rex
Tebi Rex formed when Kildare residents Max Zanga and Matt O’Baoill met at a university talent show. Bonding over a love of alternative hip hop, they joined forces to create music filled with complex, sometimes caustic lyrics, and hooks catchier than the wintertime sniffles. Their sprawling, space rock-meets-nerdcore collab with The Blizzards (‘I Need A Win’) was a mainstream-prodding highlight, while ‘Men Are Trash’, the lead single from EP Welcome To The Darkest Year Of Our Adventures, saw them gamely tackle sexism whilst flipping some hip hop stereotypes on their head.
HEAR: ‘I Need A Win’.
