Grimes joins forces with TikTok star Ashnikko on new track 'Cry'
It's the first new track from Grimes since February.
Grimes has united with pop-rap artist and TikTok star Ashnikko for her latest track, 'Cry' - her first new song since she dropped the critically-acclaimed Miss_Anthrop0cene earlier this year.
The dark, concept project Miss_Anthrop0cene is the fifth studio album by the Canadian electronic-dance musician.
Her new music with Ashnikko find the duo holding back tears as a result of a pop palette made for the future.
The new anime-inspired CGI visual features mechas, dancing humanoids, and more.
The visual “depicts Ashnikko and Grimes mutating and metamorphosing into a demon alter ego of Ashnikko stalking her prey as the two sing ‘this could get gruesome’—the aftermath of a brutal betrayal,” according to a press release.
Ashnikko is a budding face on the music scene, and rose to fame after her 'Stupid' track featuring Yung Baby Tate went viral online.
With only one EP under her belt, it's impressive that she managed to collaborate with Grimes considering the eccentric singer has been experimenting with genres for roughly a decade.
The TikTok star announced the single on Twitter, saying that she "loves to cry".
The single was originally due out the first week of June, but was postponed in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests.
“Now is NOT the time to be promoting music. It’s not important,” Ashnikko said of the schedule change.
She put out her 'Hi, It’s Me' EP on July 12 last year.
Grimes recently announced the birth of baby boy X Æ A-12 with her tech billionaire partner, Elon Musk.
In other news, the musician declared that she put a “part of her soul” on sale as part of her first-ever art exhibition.
