Gorillaz share 'Skinny Ape', announce immersive reality shows
Cracker Island is due to drop on 24th February 2023 but CD and Vinyl are available for pre-order now.
Virtual band Gorillaz have released a new song, ‘Skinny Ape,’ from their highly-anticipated upcoming album, Cracker Island, having also announced a two-city augmented reality live debut.
The first of the two shows is set in Times Square, New York at 2.30pm ET on December 17th, with the second following closely behind at 2.00pm GMT on December 18th in Piccadilly Circus, London.
In a statement released on their upcoming shows, the band has said, “These first-of-their-kind immersive experiences will allow fans to gather together to witness Gorillaz play in real life — actually larger than life — as Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel literally tower over them, playing in the midst of two of the world’s most iconic skylines.”
The idea for the immersive experience originated with Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett and French director and illustrator Fx Goby. Thanks to Google, the band will use the tech giant's augmented reality product ARCore Geospatial API to bring the simulation to life.
