Foxygen '…And Star Power' - Album Review
SCATTERGUN BUT GOOD
Sam France and Jonathon Rado are back with a follow-up to 2013’s acclaimed, Stones-influenced We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic. The music here is a blend of ‘70s soft rock (‘How Can You Really’, ‘Coulda Been My Love’) and acrid punk (‘666’ and ‘Brooklyn Police Station’).
One thing the record does not contain is a potential hit. This album is meant to be consumed in its entirety, rather than in bite-size servings. You will also have to make peace with the fact the record jumps madly between styles. The result, however, is a project with a great deal of inconsistency – but with a soul of pure rock ‘n roll.
OUT NOW.
