Dublin electro sensation EDEN makes his return to the Olympia next March, in support of his upcoming album, no future.
Dublin electro sensation EDEN has announced his return to the Olympia Theatre, set for Sunday, 8 March 2020. The announcement comes ahead of the second album no future from the vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, which is set for release on 14 February via Astralwerks.
The Dublin-bred artist, born Jonathon Ng recently unveiled the album’s lead single, 'projector', and accompanying video directed by EDEN’s frequent collaborators Zhang + Knight. Throughout the rest of no future, fans can expect Ng's playfully inventive sound design, matched with the elegant musicality he discovered as a child.
As with all of his music to date, 'projector' was recorded and produced by EDEN at his home studio. With its dreamlike textures and heady drum-machine rhythms, the song finds EDEN’s graceful vocal work channeling a heavy-hearted surrender. 'projector' follows 'untitled', another track set to appear on no future which has already amassed over one million streams and landed on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist in 12 countries, including the U.S., UK, Japan, and Australia/New Zealand.
“For as long as I can remember, I just imagined doing music professionally,” recalled EDEN in an interview with Hot Press's Peter McGoran last year. “Weirdly enough it all came from the fact that I really didn’t want to go to university. I wanted to go straight from school to doing things professionally. My parents put me into violin lessons when I was six, then from whatever age I can remember I was singing along to the radio. If I didn’t know the words or couldn’t make sense of them, I’d just sing along the gibberish syllables in a tune. It was a compulsion. It was never that feeling of one day saying, ‘Oh I’d like to be a musician’, it was always there.”
Classically trained in violin from the age of seven, he later picked up piano and guitar and played in a number of bands in his early teens. After teaching himself music production, Ng began putting out his own material under the name The Eden Project in 2013, and later rechristened himself as EDEN.
Released in January 2018, EDEN’s debut album vertigo shot to No. 1 on the iTunes Top Albums chart in 12 countries, racking up over 200 million streams globally thanks in part to the singles 'start//end', which received widespread critical acclaim.
To date, EDEN has amassed over one billion streams for vertigo and his two EPs: 2015’s End Credits and 2016’s i think you think too much of me which features the Lorde-supported lead single 'sex'. With the vertigo World Tour selling out across the globe, EDEN has also performed Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, and Firefly as well as the Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK and Fuji Rock in Japan.
Tickets for EDEN's Olympia gig are priced €28.00 including booking & venue facility fee and will go on sale next Friday, 8 November at 9am at Ticketmaster.ie.
