Duff McKagan announces a new solo album with title track 'Lighthouse'
Dropping this October, the album features Slash, Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell, and Iggy Pop on a couple of songs.
A couple weeks before Guns N' Roses headlines Glastonbury Festival, the duo's bassist Duff McKagan has taken to social media, revealing that he has a solo album in the works: Lighthouse.
While the 11-track collection might be a solo album, McKagan isn't working on it alone. Revealed in the project's tracklist is a series of collaborations with Slash on the ninth song, 'Hope,' Alice In Chains' Jerry Cantrell on 'I Just Don't Know,' and Iggy Pop on a reprisal of the album's title track.
The original version of 'Lighthouse' is already out, featuring Duff on drums, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, lead vocals, and backing vocals.

Joining him on electric guitar is Tim Dijulio. Ryan Burns plays both Wurlitzer piano and keyboards while Martin Ferveyear plays mellotron and synthesizers in addition to helping with backing vocals. Shaina Shepherd is also on backing vocals.
Speaking to the new album, McKagan described it as emulating "the crashing….the cresting waves, the falling through of all that surrounds you. Life sometimes tosses us around, and we feel the want of comfort and the pull of home. A ship tossed like a toy through the Cape, sails ripped and the wood groaning with the scraping of its ballast….a soul trying with all its might to find peace and a center"
"Find a lighthouse," McKagan says. "I have my lighthouse….its beacon swirling in the darkness with her warmth and promise of nurture, love, laughter, and all that is true. Won’t you be my lighthouse, give me light,…and bring me home."
Lighthouse is set to release later this year on Friday, October 20th. It will be available in various physical mediums, like CDs, a deluxe CD set with a fold-out photo print, cassettes, black vinyl, and deluxe vinyl in several colours. Variations are limited.
