Dublin's own Girl Band releases new single
The noise-punks are back with a brooding slow-burner.
Before Fontaines D.C. took us by storm, Ireland had the explosive noise-punks of Girl Band leading the charge. For the past 2 years, the band had been on hiatus due to health reasons. With a fresh crop of angry musicians bursting out of their home country, they've re-emerged at the perfect time and announced a forthcoming album entitled The Talkies to be released September 27th.
In anticipation of The Talkies, they have dropped a new single ‘Salmon of Knowledge,’ a post-punk slow-burner muddied with feedback and droning guitars. It’s easily the band's most avant-garde effort yet. Frontman Dara Kiely’s vocals are tense and uncomfortable, matching the bleakness of his backing band. It’s great to hear Girl Band making some of the most ambitious music of their career.
Additionally, Girl Band is returning to the live sphere with back-to-back shows at Vicar Street on November 22nd and 23rd. The first night is already sold out, so act now if you want to catch one of Dublin’s most game-changing bands.
