DJ Rory Boyee, aka Rory Stokes, releases new single ‘Hey Mister Boomerang’
Following years of struggling with PTSD and addiction, Stokes has begun making music again
DJ Rory Boyee, also known as Rory Stokes, has released a new single ‘Hey Mister Boomerang’.
Stokes is a former member of both The Sussed and Cuba Dares, two bands that released successful singles in the 1980s.
In his 20s, Stokes developed PTSD in the wake of a friend’s horrific suicide, and, after being prescribed medication in the wake of the tragedy, struggled with addiction, an experience which he wrote about in Hot Press in 2019. This led Stokes to step away from performing for many years.
Recently, however, Stokes has been reentering the music world: The Sussed have been somewhat active in recent years, and Stokes has recently released a number of singles as DJ Rory Boyee, including ‘Hey Mister Boomerang’.
“The song is about a girl travelling around the world and she keeps bumping into the same DJ in every city,” said Stokes. “At first she finds it strange, but then realises that it’s fate.”
