Diamonds
As Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ sits pretty atop the iTunes chart, Rihanna is having a little Shirley Bassey moment of her own with ‘Diamonds’, a mushy, down-tempo belter with all the pomp and drama of an action flick theme tune. The first outing from the Barbadian pin-up’s forthcoming seventh album (the girl is literally churning out records faster than I can review them), ‘Diamonds’ sees Ri-Ri veer away from her tried-and-tested wallop-pop formula. Funny thing is, now that she’s finally taken an experimental leap, I’m longing to have the honking, pounding, earth-shaking electro house stuff back. That’s showbiz, I guess.
