Davy Malone drops his first single of the year, 'I Lay Awake'
Clara, Co. Offaly native Davy Malone shares 'I Lay Awake', his first new music of 2020.
Davy Malone returns with his first single of 2020, 'I Lay Awake', which takes a turn towards a more pop-infused sound, with influences from the likes of Khalid, Ed Sheeran, and Drake. The track was produced by Malone and inspired by producer Nick Mira and has lyrics eerily applicable to today's situation.
It's pure coincidence that it applies to directly to the current situation, though, claims the 21-year-old social studies student. "I began working on this single back in late January 2020. As I'm in my final year of college, my schedule has been hectic balancing study and music." The musician has had more time, however, to finish up the track since moving home as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"With this single I'm hoping to improve and expand on previous releases," said Malone in a statement. "My inspiration for the submission has been like all my inspiration with my music: I just want people to feel good."
The track explores insomnia and Malone's own career with a reference to his single, 'Chilling in la Mata', which reminisces on the simplicity of last summer. It's a surefire addition to any chill quarantine playlist.
