Christine and the Queens’ Héloïse Letissier has returned with ‘Girlfriend’, a new single featuring Dâm-Funk.
It marks Christine and the Queens’ first new song since her debut record, Chaleur Humaine, released to near-universal acclaim in France in 2014 and the UK in 2016,
‘Girlfriend’, self-written and self-produced, is a bold departure and finds Letissier stepping towards a more ‘macho’ sound, assuming the role of 'Chris'. The track - written and produced by Letissier - pays tribute to her long-time love of the G-funk sound, enlisting G-funk producer extraordinaire, Dâm-Funk.
“I initially set out to smash against macho culture and macho men,” Letissier said in a press release. “I became obsessed with this idea of the macho man, and still being a woman. What does it mean if I’m this figure, and I’m a woman? Does it make me an aberration? Is it joyful?"
She returns to Ireland to play the RDS Main Hall on Friday, November 30.
