Botchit Breaks 4
However, despite the label’s prolific output, this fourth instalment of ‘Botchit Breaks’ provides us with the most complete overview
Amazingly, ‘Botchit Breaks 4’ is Botchit & Scarper’s thirteenth compilation to date. However, despite the label’s prolific output, this fourth instalment of ‘Botchit Breaks’ provides us with the most complete overview of the breaks scene to date; on the harder end of the spectrum there’s 10 Sui’s mix of Rennie Pilgrem’s ‘Paranoia’, Atomic Hooligan’s acidic ‘In It Together’, and Jason Spark’s frankly unsettling ‘Pornography’. Representing different flavours are Backdraft’s ‘Misconception’ and Bionic’s ‘We Be Getting Down’, with both tracks referencing ragga and hip-hop sources, while Soto & Amaziree and Chris Carter make the case for deep techno’s influence on the style. Finally, ‘Breaks 4’ proves there is a renegade element to breaks, with an ‘American Beauty’ sampling squelch fest from Si Begg. As definitive as it gets. [
