Bob Dylan performs The Pogues' 'A Rainy Night in Soho' in Dublin
Listen to his cover of the track below.
Last night, Bob Dylan performed a cover of The Pogues' 'A Rainy Night In Soho' at his 3Arena, Dublin show.
The artist previously played the track in May during his set at the Outlaw Music Festival Tour in Phoenix, Arizona.
When Dylan last played Dublin as part of his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour, which came to the 3Arena in November 2022, he addressed the crowd only once, to send a greeting to Shane MacGowan, the song's writer – describing him as "one of our favourite artists."
"We hope he makes another record soon," he added – speaking just over a year before MacGowan's death, aged 65. "'Fairytale Of New York' is close to all of our hearts and we listen to it every Christmas..."
Last year, the Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa played host to the exhibition They Gave The Walls A Talking, dedicated to the extraordinary musical and creative legacy of MacGowan and The Pogues. Curated by Hot Press editor Niall Stokes, in collaboration with EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, it was the Center’s first exhibition to focus on a musical artist other than Dylan. They Gave The Walls A Talking had previously opened in Dublin in December 2023.
Last night's set also included ‘I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight’, ‘It Ain’t Me, Babe’, ‘I Contain Multitudes’, ‘False Prophet’, ‘When I Paint My Masterpiece’, ‘My Own Version of You’, ‘Crossing the Rubicon, ‘Key West (Philosopher Pirate)’, ‘It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue’, ‘Every Grain of Sand’ and ‘Goodbye Jimmy Reed’, before ending with the cover.
