Black Rivers - Black Rivers
Doves are reborn as angst-rockers
Alongside the inimitable Jimi Goodwin, brothers Jez and Andy Williams made up the formidable power-rock trio Doves, one of the most underrated, sorely missed acts of the noughties. As Goodwin ploughs ahead with a moderately successful solo career, the Williams brothers are finally ready to re-enter the ring with their debut as Black Rivers.
It has been well worth the wait: Doves fans will find plenty of gems to fall head over heels in love with here. Jez Williams has a little bit of previous from occasionally alternating lead vocal duties with Goodwin, so his bittersweet croon will be familiar to fans: lead single ‘Voyager’ will have many nodding in approval.
Another reference point is the electronic pop band Sub Sub, home to Williams brothers and Goodwin for five years before Doves were born. Black Rivers clearly love their electronic textures; their debut comes with euphoric moments that tantalisingly border on rave.
Audiences will have an opportunity to sample Black Rivers on the imminent arena tour from fellow Northern rock star, Noel Gallagher. It could be the start of a beautiful relationship...
