Become You
Become You is their umpteenth album of well crafted, meaningful folk, tinged with other selections from the American musical canon
Although a lot of water has flown under the bridge since they were first feted by everyone from REM to the Wonderstuff, in the Indigo Girls’ world little has changed.
Become You is their umpteenth album of well crafted, meaningful folk, tinged with other selections from the American musical canon. ‘Moment Of Forgiveness’ has a deep soul feel to it, ‘Yield’ a bluegrass belt and ‘Deconstruction’ a mournful dignity.
Nothing, however, strays particularly far from their original blueprint – which may be of great comfort to diehard fans yet of no little frustration to everyone else. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it isn’t a bad philosophy but sometimes you can’t help but wish that they’d cut loose a touch, take some of the passion and anger evident in their lyrics and politics they support and instil it into their music.
Oh well, maybe next time.
