Album Review: Greta Van Fleet, Palace For The People
Impressive collection from classic rock merchants. 7/10
Buoyed by a newfound spirit of adventure, on Palace For The People, Greta Van Fleet’s aim was to create a record personifying imagination, brutality and beauty. They describe the record as “a love story for the world”, and for fans of the hard-riffing quartet, there’s much to fall head over heels for.
The band’s trademark Zeppelin and Doors vibes are still very much in evidence, but this time, they’ve bolstered their swaggering tunes with a delicious sprinkle of grunge – specifically, the brooding and beautiful style of Mad Season and Temple Of The Dog.
‘Boughten Bliss’ is a joy best described as MTV Unplugged-meets-Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds, while the galloping ‘Dreams You Hold’ – with its echoes of ‘80s Ozzy Osbourne – is sure to be a fan favourite, and the gorgeously cinematic ‘Born Into This’ makes for a stunning closer.
Full of spellbinding fret wizardry and magnificently OTT howls and hooks, Palace For The People is royally good.
7/10
