Album Review: Can't Stop Or Rewind, CHIMPANBEE
Formed from the ashes of promising grunge and punk-peppered four-piece The Creaks, the debut album from Chimpanbee sees them remodel material from an unfinished opus abandoned in 2012. Buoyed by the presence of new recruit Alan Stacy, the eight-song LP is filled with Britpop-influenced indie anthems. Highlights include the moody, Eastern flavoured ‘Snaakes’ and synth-driven ‘Systems Failed’, the latter boasting some stirring backing vocals. However, the real standout is the title-track. Taking a welcome walk on the weird side, the inspired mix of ghostly vocals and atmospheric keyboards underlines Chimpanbee’s huge potential. OUT NOW
