7 Wishes is an undeniably lightweight offering
If nothing else, Shana Morrison certainly had a mixed musical upbringing. A mother steeped in American songwriting. Irish grandparents to teach her a wealth of traditional tunes and songs. And a father who rose from the Belfast rhythm and blues scene to become one of the most respected artists of the late twentieth century.
So quite why her debut album sounds so like a bad Natalie Imbruglia record is therefore a mystery. Perhaps Ms Morrison is so keen to establish her own identity that she has thrown the baby out with the bathwater, but 7 Wishes is an undeniably lightweight offering.

Indeed, the album’s only saving grace comes when the old man shuffles on to add harmonica and babbling vocals to his own ‘Sometimes We Cry’. One to be avoided.
