2FM announce new ‘Play the Picnic Stage’ and join forces with Jack and Jill Foundation
RTÉ 2FM returns to Electric Picnic this year with the best of new Irish music. In a new refreshed format Play the Picnic will showcase up and coming bands after a nationwide search in June alongside more established acts. Thirty unsigned acts will have the opportunity to compete and win the musical opportunity of a lifetime to play a coveted live set at Electric Picnic, while Play the Picnic will also host established new acts such as Roisin O, Ivy Nations, David Keenan, Chasing Abbey, Wolff, Marcas Carcas, Brave Giant and Military Road with many more to be confirmed.
The new stage will be curated and produced by music promoters Abner Browns and RTÉ XM’s King Kong Radio, along with partners and curators Music Maker and IMRO, all huge advocates and supporters of Irish music.'
Teaming up with the Irish children’s charity Jack and Jill Foundation, this year’s Play The Picnic campaign is launched on Tracy Clifford on 2FM with a live music special on June 6th from Abner Brown’s barbershop and music venue in Rathmines, Dublin featuring Roisin O and last year’s Play The Picnic winners Tanjier.
Acts that wish to apply can email a link to their track to [email protected]. The 10 best acts will then be added to the Play the Picnic Stage at electric Picnic, and the act with the most votes will also get the chance to lay on The Cosby Stage, as well as receiving masterclasses in festival booking, approaching radio stations, and a studio session with 2FM's sound engineers.
The next big Irish act could be just around the corner.
