Review – Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
Successfully returning from a galaxy far, far away, Pavel Barter reports on the latest Star Wars game.
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
PS5 (EA)
Between Baby Yoda’s frog diet in The Mandalorian and Diego Luna’s permanent frown in Andor, Disney have revived the Star Wars universe to a point of respectability. Past monstrosities such as rubbish-CGI Rastafarian Jar Jar Binks, and the dreadful Han Solo movie, can almost be forgiven. This sequel to 2019’s Jedi: Fallen Order packs all the best bits about a Galaxy, Far, Far Away. Like Rocksteady’s series of Batman games, you’ll feel like you truly belong in a Jedi’s jockstrap.
Our leading man, hipster Jedi Cal Kestis, is an intergalactic cousin to Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series. He clambers up vertiginous cliffs looking for treasure while encountering mobs of Stormtroopers who he bends in two like an angry Harry Potter. You’ll spill the popcorn during the action sequences, in which Cal runs along walls, double-jumps, dashes through the air, and slides down surfaces into fresh melees.
Alongside this telekinetic witchcraft, you can assume different fighting stances for flashy battles, engaging in strikes and dodges using a single lightsaber, or swinging a double-bladed staff in Darth Maul style. Restore health at meditation spots, before venturing back into vast open-worlds where rabbit-hole side-quests and boss battles await.
