WATCH: Oscar-winning My Octopus Teacher director James Read supplies the video for new Catchers single
It's time to fall in love with the Portstewart combo all over again as they return after a long break with ‘Something’s Taking Over Me’
Having taken a prolonged break – we’re talking twenty-plus years – Catchers return today with ‘Something’s Taking Over Me’, which picks up pretty much where they left off with 1998’s Stooping To Fit long-player.
Thanks in large part to the delicious vocal interplay between Dale Grundle and Alice Lemon, the Portstewart combo signed to Setanta Records and built up a particularly devout following in France.
Indeed, Hot Press remembers being at a gig of theirs in Paris where the adoration levels were off the scale.
The accompanying subaquatic video is supplied by Oscar-winning My Octopus Teacher man, James Read, who repurposed footage from his DIY Jago, A Life Underwater short.
“I’ve been a fan of Catchers since I heard their first single 'Cotton Dress'," Read says. "I wanted to be a part of this new project as soon as Alice sent me the demo version of 'Something’s Taking Over Me'. When we got into the studio it was clear that my film Jago, A Life Underwater had very similar themes to the song and the Catchers band generally, actually... and so I was very excited to work with them.”
The even better news is that there will be a full album next year.
