Netflix set to release new series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story
Haunting teaser reveals first look at the series.
Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's true crime anthology series Monsters returns to Netflix on September 19, following the monumental success of its first instalment, Dahmer. The second instalment, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, narrates the historic case of real-life brothers, who were convicted in 1996 of the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise "Kitty" Menendez.
Now serving life sentences without the prospect of parole, the brothers steadfastly maintain that they acted out of fear, after suffering years of physical and sexual abuse, at the hands of their parents. However, the prosecution contended that, in fact, Lyle and Erik Menendez carried out the crimes in order to inherit their family estate.
The trial caused a sensation at the time, and paved the way for audiences' modern-day intrigue with true crime. The series stars Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch as the brothers, Lyle and Erik Menendez. Their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, will be portrayed by Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny.
